主人公は、夏休みにレモネードをネタに金儲けを始め、徐々に成功し、従業員を雇ったら賃金に不満で、労使交渉を申し込まれ、交渉決裂、ストライキ、ロックアウト、仲裁、労使交渉が妥結、事業再開、そしてさらに商売は繁盛し、夏休みの終わりに成功したレモネード屋を売り払い商売は大成功、めでたしめでたし、という話の絵本です。
商売をやっていくといずれ労働力の購入が不可欠で、それはそれで市場原理が働き、売り手の主体として労働者があり労働組合があり、そことの交渉が不可欠という話が、金儲けのメカニズムを教える中に必ず入っています。アメリカらしいリアリティの持ち方です。
子どもたちだけの街「ミニ●●」でも、「ギッザニア」でも私が労働組合のブースが必要だというのはこのことです。
一方、日本の起業だとか、ベンチャーだとかの世界は、まったくこうした労使関係の教育がなく、精神論とブラック企業化するような甘言ばかりです。
そして労使関係でいうと、あるのは労務対策だけで、よりによってコンプライアンスに名を借りた従業員抑圧のための手練手管を教えたりします。
